Spring Playlist 2025
I won’t ever say I have favorites, but gosh this playlist I’m really digging. My spring 2025 songs are all sung by females. There’s Aretha always commanding Respect. To Doechii who I had never heard of until this years Grammy awards. Her songs and performance made sure that no one would forget who she was. We’ll be hearing more and more from her for a long time I would guess. And since we’re on the topic of the Grammys I’m sharing my absolute favorite version of Annie Lennox’s I Put A Spell On You that she performed with Hozier back at the 2015 Academy Awards ceremony.
We have soulful singers Adele and Lana Del Rey and then actress Kate Hudson who came out with her first album in 2024. And to think she fooled us in How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days with her awful singing. I’m featuring her song Gonna Find Out but if you’re a Mother to a son try and listen to Live Forever without crying.
RESPECT - ARETHA FRANKLIN
I’d never heard this version of this song until I got in my Dad’s car and he had the CD in the car. Yes, he still very much listens to CD’s and still buys them to this day. Once I heard this version though I had it on repeat every time I got in his car. Try and not turn the volume up when you listen to this.
LOST WITHOUT YOU - FREYA RIDINGS
This song with her lyrics and voice always puts me in my feels.
I PUT A SPELL ON YOU - ANNIE LENNOX
Hozier opened this performance with playing Take Me To Church which was magic but then here comes Annie Lennox. She’s got style, and grit and whatever she does with her hands and singing is PERFECTION. Hozier gives her her moment and truly seems in awe of the magic he’s watching too.
DENIAL IS A RIVER - DOECHII
Doechii is brining late 90s early 2000s rap feel back and I’m here for it. Her acceptance speech for winning best rap album shows such appreciation and gratitude while reminding the young girls and women “You are exactly who you need to be” in this world.
GONNA FIND OUT - KATE HUDSON
Treat yourself, especially if you’re a mom, to these 60 seconds about Kate’s song that she wrote about her son Ryder below.
OSCAR WINNING TEARS - RAYE
Raye’s a bit soul, a bit r & b mixed with emotion topped with lyrics to really bring it home.
DON’T LET ME BE MISUNDERSTOOD - NINA SIMONE
If you’re going to have a female playlist, you definitely can’t leave off Ms. Nina Simone.
THAT’S THE WAY LOVE GOES - JANET JACKSON
I used to think Janet was just the coolest when I was a young girl. So clearly I was a genius when I was young. She had beautiful skin, curls, and could dance like no other….oh and then to really top it, sang like that. What 11 year old girl wouldn’t think that?
LOST ON YOU - LP
I don’t know how I found this song, but I like so many songs, I actually prefer the live version more than the studio recorded one. It’s always fun to find a new artist then deep dive in to their songs and vibe.
REDESIGNING WOMEN - THE HIGHWOMEN
What’s a female playlist without a song that speaks to all our female superpowers and how we’re gonna get it all done even with a baby on the hip.
BORN TO DIE - LANA DEL REY
Lana always crushes her music videos. So while I adore her music, I also alway enjoy watching her storytelling through her music videos.
TEARS DRY ON THEIR OWN - AMY WINEHOUSE
A soulful voice matched with her iconic hair and liner that we’ll never forget.
EDGE OF MIDNIGHT - MILEY CYRUS & STEVIE NICKS
Ok a remix we didn’t know we needed, two raspy singing artists remaking songs, uhhhh, definitely yes. Stevie is really having a comeback recently and it’s been fun to see her “around” more.
HOMETOWN GLORY - ADELE
Adele is the epitome of a songwriter. I feel like so many of her lyrics we can all relate to. I’m still putting it out there to the universe that I’d like to see her in concert…still. ;)
DOO WOP (THAT THING) - LAURYN HILL
I can almost guarantee that if you’re my age you had this Lauryn’s CD growing up.
I hope you enjoy this playlist. It’s a good one to listen to while you’re getting ready for the day or since it’s starting to be nice weather, roll those windows down and turn it up!!
Thanks for reading!
