Fall Playlist 2024
“Music keeps me spirited”. Ahhhh Chet Faker, you are so right. Isn’t it so amazing how a song can come on and it can transport you to another time of your life. You might not have thought about that moment in time in ages, yet you’re right back to that day, event, or feeling. That’s the thing with music, it can give you all the feels. There’s such beauty when you’re driving with the windows down, hand out the window, rolling in the wind, “feeling” a song.
So with that in mind, I thought I’d introduce you to some songs that I love. Songs that pull me back in time like Carly Simon’s You’re So Vain. My Mother would put the cassette tape in my yellow Sony stereo and we’d belt the lyrics out while she signed them. My Mother was a teacher at a deaf school and I don’t know what it was about Carly but any time that tape went in, she was always signing. Joy. The memory I get when I hear any of Carly’s songs is a tape playing in an old kitchen and my Mother making breakfast.
The Indigo Girls. They were playing in the background my senior year of high school during so many “small” moments that have added up to a 24 year friendship. The Rollers, yes we have a name, are a 7 woman strong group. But I’d say, it is safe to say, that the Indigo Girls are a definite honorary member of The Rollers along with Brandi Carlisle who came along after in our “adult” lives.
I wouldn’t have my love of music if it wasn’t for my Dad. I will also be blaming you for any future hearing loss Dad as the only way I know to listen to music is LOUD. Did you know that Mick Jagger’s birthday is in July? I do because my Dad always had a birthday party for him.
Some of the songs on this playlist I just enjoy and some have a personal connection, but they’re all remarkable in their own right.
SARATOGA - EDDIE 9V
This song will give you a pep to your step. I have a feeling this song is going to keep getting traction and attention that it so deserves.
CHARLEY CROCKETT - I’M JUST A CLOWN
Charley has a sound of his own and my younger son has become quite the fan. You’ll hear his songs in the new movie Twisters.
ROLLING STONES - GIMME SHELTER FEATURING LISA FISCHER
If there’s ever a version of this song to listen to, but also watch, it’s this one.
CARLY SIMON - YOU’RE SO VAIN
Will we ever find out who she wrote this song about?
DJ KHALED - ALL I DO IS WIN FEATURING LUDACRIS (naughty words) ;)
Ever wonder what it’s like when my husband wins Monopoly or Trouble in our house? He blasts this song just for that extra dig.
BRISCOE - THE WELL
Briscoe wrote this song about “negotiating the transition from adolescence to adulthood.”
WARREN ZEVON - WEREWOLVES OF LONDON
My Dad’s favorite lyrics from any song is from this song, “I saw a werewolf drinkin’ a pina colada at Trader Vic’s. His hair was perfect.”
CAAMP - SO LONG, HONEY
There’s something so soothing about this song. Also these lyrics, Be good to your mothers Oh, they did the best they could. I’m learning right along with you boys on how to be the best I can be.
BONNIE RAITT - SOMETHING TO TALK ABOUT
Please tell me you’ve seen the movie with the same title.
CAGE THE ELEPHANT - RAINBOW
I’ve never been a devoted Cage the Elephant fan, but this song has been on repeat for weeks.
CLOSER TO FINE - INDIGO GIRLS
I’m right back to high school with not a care in the world when I hear the Girls.
NELLY, FLORIDA GEORGIA LINE - LIL BIT
I’m no country fan, but any time Nelly gets in on some country, I’m instantly in.
EDIE BRICKELL & NEW BOHEMIANS - WHAT I AM
You’ll see that a lot of the comments are Edie was well ahead of the 80s with her 90s vibe. And since it seems the 90s are in these days I’m sure all the kids will get this song trending in no time.
SIERRA FERRELL - AMERICAN DREAMING
This song is about Sierra living her American dream getting to tour all the corners of the world, but with that comes missing her people and putting roots down, building that American dream is exhausting and hard at times but worth it.
FLORENCE AND THE MACHINE - YOU’VE GOT THE LOVE
Florence’s voice is a powerhouse.
REMIX - FLORENCE & THE MACHINE WITH DIZZEE RASCAL - YOU’VE GOT THE LOVE
But then a remix from an awards show comes and now you have two favorites of the same song.
Thanks for reading! I hope you might have found a new song or perhaps one of these songs has taken you on your own musical memory journey. Music keeps you spirited.
