Project Margaritaville / Master Bathroom

It’s been awhile since I’ve shared project recap with you so I’m excited to share these after photos with you. This bathroom was original to the 1983 home and while it might have been an ‘80s bathroom it was giving off big ‘70s vibes with its orange tiles throughout. So needless to say, it was time to update.

We completely reworked the floorpan to better suit their needs for today. We eliminated the sunken bathtub that was never used and in its place are their vanities. Where their vanity used to be now sits a large cabinet that we had our cabinet company finish off to look like a piece of furniture.

It was important when we designed this space that we stay true to what the style of the home was and how the other rooms in their home looked and felt. This house is surrounded by a lot of trees and they very much appreciate and gravitate to a warmer space. We kept that warmth in the cabinets and the veining in the tiles throughout.

It was evident when looking at their existing bathroom that they lacked storage. They don’t have large closets in their master so I knew we needed to add additional storage than just bathroom vanities. We were able to give them ample storage in the form of 8 drawers in the cabinet we had built. We had the top part of the cabinet built with glass so we could display bath salts and accessories, but also allow for towel storage in a functional, yet aesthetic way.

A favorite design aspect in this bathroom is the tiled rug we had centered on the entrance to the room. It gives some interest and a grounding aspect to a part of the room that otherwise you’d walk right through with little to no thought.

The furniture style custom cabinet gives ample storage while also providing display for accessories and bathroom necessities like towels and toilet paper. The cabinet is highlighted by the tile rug that’s centered on the entrance to the bathroom.

Aesthetic yet functional storage in this bathroom cabinet.

We moved the location of the shower and more than doubled the size to also accommodate a bench at the back of the shower. What was once dark and cramped is now bright and spacious. We were also able to fit a full length mirror in the bathroom which they didn’t have before. Perfect for those ‘fit checks as the kids say. ;)

We brought warmth to this bathroom by adding a natural woven full length mirror. It compliments the warm veining in the tiles along with the cabinetry.

The nickel plumbing compliments the warmth of the tiles in the shower.

Can there ever be too much storage? I think not, and these clients couldn’t agree more. Where once sat an oversized sunken bathtub now holds their separate vanities with a corner unit between. To continue the warmth and finish throughout we added a woven chandelier for added interest and function.

The contrast of the light floors with the dark cabinets married with the woven chandelier in a medium tone really sets the master bath apart. It also shows that mixing metals always works as we have nickel plumbing with oil rubbed bronze knobs and pulls and they couldn’t look better together.

I’m excited to show you more of this house soon but so appreciate you following along and reading!
